minutes later the "Irene" proceeded ahead at full

steam and fire was opened upon the submarine

from scell arms from her.

It being thus obvious

that the pirates had no intention of obeying the

summons to stop, the anbaurine then fired one

practice and one seul-armour-piercing shell into

the stern of the "Irene", and as she still proceeded at

full steam and used her helm in an attempt to

esoape, after some minutes three shells, one

aeni-armour-piercing and two high-explosive, were

fired at her engine room.
